Samco Securities is a new-age stock brokerage firm in India with a mission to simplify investing and make trading smarter, faster, and more accessible. In 2023, we embarked on a complete redesign of Samco 3.0, reimagining both the website and trading app experience to reflect modern fintech standards while addressing critical gaps in usability, accessibility, and trust. As the VP of Design, I led this initiative, driving strategy, design execution, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver a future-ready trading platform.

As VP of Design, I led the complete design strategy and execution for Samco 3.0 Website & Trading App.
Team Leadership: Led a 12-member design team (UX researchers, UI designers, interaction designers, and design technologists).
Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborated with product managers, engineering leads, and key stakeholders including the CEO.
Design Vision & Strategy: Defined the design vision and roadmap aligned with business goals.
End-to-End Process: Supervised end-to-end design process: discovery โ strategy โ wireframing โ prototyping โ usability testing โ final UI.
Design System: Maintained design consistency through a scalable design system.
Compliance & Accessibility: Ensured compliance with SEBI regulations and accessibility guidelines for fintech products.
โ Problems Identified
While Samco had strong technology, the user experience of the previous platform was fragmented. We identified:
Complex Navigation: Users struggled to discover core features like stock research and trade execution.
Lack of Personalization: Traders had different needs (beginner vs. advanced) but the platform offered a one-size-fits-all experience.
Outdated Design Language: The old UI lacked trustworthiness and didn't reflect a modern trading environment.
High Learning Curve: First-time investors found the interface overwhelming.
Inconsistent Cross-Platform Experience: Website and mobile app weren't aligned, creating confusion for users switching devices.

We set clear goals for Samco 3.0:
Simplify Trading Workflows: One-click buy/sell, intuitive dashboards.
Design for Multiple Personas: Tailor journeys for beginners, seasoned investors, and intraday traders.
Establish Brand Trust: Create a modern, minimal, and reliable design language.
Seamless Cross-Platform Experience: Consistency between web and mobile app.
Build a Scalable Design System: For faster future rollouts.

We defined three key personas:
Beginner Investor (Age 22โ30)
Goal: Start small, learn, explore stocks/mutual funds.
Needs: Education, simplified interface, guidance on risk.
Active Trader (Age 28โ40)
Goal: Daily/weekly trades, quick decision-making.
Needs: Real-time market data, customizable dashboards, speed.
Long-term Investor (Age 35โ50)
Goal: Wealth growth, portfolio diversification.
Needs: Research tools, portfolio analysis, trustworthy interface.

We followed a comprehensive design process:
a. Discovery & Research
Conducted 30+ user interviews with existing Samco customers.
Analyzed competitor platforms (Zerodha, Upstox, Groww).
Mapped pain points & opportunities using journey maps.
b. Strategy
Defined information architecture to reduce navigation complexity.
Designed two-tier dashboards: Beginner (simplified view) & Pro (advanced analytics).
Created personalization logic (AI-driven watchlists, insights).
c. Wireframing & Prototyping
Low-fidelity wireframes for quick validation.
Interactive prototypes tested with 20+ users.
Iterated based on feedback (e.g., moving quick-trade buttons to top for pro users).
d. Visual Design
Built Samco Design System (SDS 1.0) โ typography, color palette, components.
Created clean, data-first UI โ emphasis on legibility, speed, and trust.
Established dark mode for traders working late hours.
e. Usability Testing
Conducted A/B testing for different navigation patterns.
Reduced onboarding time by 35% with guided walkthroughs.
Increased trade completion rates by 28% through simplified order placement.
